3 Tips to Handle Negative People While Going for Your Goals

Anytime you reach for a goal that stretches you beyond your current limitations, one of the biggest challenges you’ll most likely face is the influence of “negative” people.

As you’re probably already aware, when you find yourself surrounded by positive uplifting people, you begin feeling more positive, confident, empowered and energized, yourself.

You adopt the attitude of the people around you!

But unfortunately the same is true when you find yourself surrounded by negative people.

When you spend time with negative people who criticize you, themselves or others, their negative outlook eventually affects your attitude too.

Soon, you’ll find yourself feeling unhappy, drained and even depressed - and you may not even be sure why!

And this is the opposite of how you need to be feeling when it comes to achieving your goals or making any other positive changes in your life!

Here are three tips to help you maintain a positive high vibration so that you'll keep moving onwards & upwards towards any goal you set for yourself.

  1. Don’t take it personally.

Remember what people say and do is more about them than you. People who are negative and critical most likely are this way about everybody and everything. There is something within themselves that they may need love, understanding and compassion so they project on to others that which they do not have. I suggest limiting your time with these people while you are going for your goal. The best way to honor yourself is to show them you can achieve your goal.

  1. Say, “that’s interesting.”

Yep that’s the only feedback you need to give. Instead of trying to justify your actions or convince them to agree with you, end the negative conversation, by saying that’s interested. Then promptly change the topic to something more lively and upbeat that is not about you. This keeps you from getting sucked into the negativity and helps you stay detached.

  1. Screen the recipients

When you set a goal for yourself, screen who you share the news with. You get to choose so choose the people who want to see you succeed and who will raise you up in the most positive way. Find a mentor or someone to team up with who will challenge you and encourage you. If the naysayers come along and ask you what you’re doing, simply answer, Oh, it’s just some project. I don’t want to bore you with the details. I’ll let you know when it’s done. When you reach your goal, then and only then is when you share what you’ve been working on. Invite them to the celebration of your achievement. That’s the best answer you could ever give them.
